Crime Report: January 23-29

This is a series the Maroon publishes summarizing instances of campus crime. Each week details a few notable crimes, in addition to keeping a running count from January 1. The focus is on crimes within the UCPD patrol area, which runs from East 37th to 65th Streets and South Cottage Grove to Lake Shore Drive.

Here are this week’s notables:

  • January 24, 970 East 58th Street (University of Chicago Bookstore), 3:55 p.m.—An unknown male stole four jackets from a display rack and fled from the bookstore.
  • January 26, 1225 East 60th Street, 11:45 p.m.—Two males attempted to steal a cell phone from the hand of a victim walking on the sidewalk. The suspects fled without taking it, and the victim declined medical attention.
  • January 28, East 55th Street between Kenwood and Dorchester Avenues, 5:50 p.m.—Two men armed with a handgun took money and cell phones from a retail store. The case is now being investigated by the CPD.
