A new edition of The Chicago Manual of Style will be released in September, ending the many years of the style guide referring to “emails” as “e-mails” and “internet” being spelled with a capital “I.”

In the new edition, the use of ibid for repeated citations will no longer be preferred, the singular “they” as a preferred personal pronoun will be accepted in formal writing, and the updated style guide will also contain thirty new sections on syntax.

The Chicago Manual of Style was first published in 1906 by the University of Chicago Press. This will be the 17th edition of the style guide.

The Chicago Manual of Style should not to be confused with The Chicago Maroon’s art feature, UChicago Manual of Style, which showcases fashion around campus.
